Ignacio Davila, the Viator Barbarians… who are they, and what tricks can the 7’s fans expect from them?
Ignacio Davila:
The Viator Barbarians are the actual runners-up of the Benidorm7s, one of Spain's most important rugby tournaments. We are an invitational team, combined in a mix of spanish internationals and some players from abroad.
How did this 7’s rugby team came to be? And what are the main goals?
Ignacio Davila: Simple answer… We like rugby Sevens. We want to play as many tournamrnts as possible, and we are always looking for quality rugby sevens tournaments!
It is your first time at the Algarve 7’s? What made you want to play in this tournament?
Ignacio Davila: We always remember the Lisbon 7s with Manuel Cabral, and enjoyed our time there. We played as the Benidorm 7s invitational team, and it was our fiest experience as an invitational side. The Portuguese rugby 7s tournaments are always fun, cool and great, and that is what we expect from the Algarve 7s.
Sun, beach, a perfect green pitch, and a very strong competition. Is this the best ingredients to offer a great rugby tournament?
Ignacio Davila: Yes and good fish a la brasa!
Why 7’s, what makes you like so much this type of Rugby Union variant?
Ignacio Davila: Sevens is speed. Tries. Tackles. Fiesta. Happiness. Friends! Is just the best combination possible.
What are the Viator Barbarians main strengths? And what is the background or teams of your players?
Ignacio Davila: Invitational teams are always difficult to manage. The players needs some time to know each other. But if they are happy they can produce great rugby 7s
We won Madrid7s three times and the Benidorm 7s once, as also the Gibraltar 7s or Pamplona 7s. We traveles a lot, as we were at Henley on Thames, Cuwtawe 7s, or even in the Cayman 7s.
