INTERVIEW WITH ANDRÉ VENTER (SA ALL STARS)

The South Africa All Stars are going to shake things up in our Sevens in the Sun, but what do we really know about them? Are they in for the gold? And who are the main stars of this roster?

To try and unveil this SA All-Stars, nothing better than to talk with their captain, André Venter, who is getting his team ready in Spain.

Thank you, André Venter, for answering our interview! We are going to have the pleasure of hosting the South Africa All-Stars in our Sevens in the Sun… who are the South Africa All-Stars? And will your team take the title home?

AV: The SA All-Stars are a sevens academy based in Pretoria, we are the flagship academy for 7’s in South Africa next to the Blitsbokke’s academy team. I believe we have the firepower to take the title home.

How is the team getting ready for the competition?

AV: Without giving away too many secrets, we practice really hard with the goal to be the best.

What are you expecting from the Algarve 7’s tournament?

AV: We are expecting some heat and some great competition. Great fans and have some good rugby.

South Africa is one of the best teams in the 7’s World Series. Can you explain to us why, and what makes the South-African rugby a top-level athlete?

AV: South Africa has a great pool of rugby talent and is so diverse. We put all our diverse talents together to make a great team and in the team, we work hard and strive to be the best and I think that is the big difference between South Africa and the world.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? And what are your responsibilities as the team leader?

AV: I am still young at the age of 23 but since I can walk I had a rugby ball in my hand. My responsibility is just to go out and lead the team, not by talking too much but more with action. For me it is always team first and what the team needs, it’s the All-Stars that win not the individual.

What are the South Africa All-Stars' three best qualities?

AV: We train hard, we believe we are the best and we never stop playing.
