The Algarve 7s team is delighted to have the Georgia team attending the tournament for the first time. This is the third national team after Hong Kong and Portugal to confirm the registration in the ELITE men competition.
Georgia is currently considered still a second-tier rugby union nation but is one of the world's fastest-growing rugby nations. Rugby is a hugely popular sport in Georgia and the national team has already qualified for the XV a side Rugby World Cup four times. Although the Georgia national VII team has not been as successfull as the XV code, the Georgia Rugby Union is hoping to change that and their first goal is to make sure that Georgia prepare in the best possible form competing in high standard tournaments such as the Algarve 7s to prepare well for the RWC7s qualification tournament in July.
